Ultra light amps (for DB)

(Note this is for double bass)

Ive been thinking about another small amp for quiet gigs even rehearsals. I currently have a Markbass CMD121P which does a great job for any gig that I need, but sometimes I just want a little reinforcement around the fundamental frequencies, and the amp sits on maybe 15-20% volume.

So it got me thinking if there is an amp which would be light and small enough to carry over the shoulder when I have to wheel the double bass along. Once you get below a 12 inch speaker, are the amps too small to produce the frequencies required?

Doesnt have to be loud, but a clear and natural sound is desirable.

Phil Jones has some amps that are designed just for what you are looking for. Here's a review of one.

Also, you can definitely get enough support out of a speaker smaller than 12".

A Genz Benz shuttle 3.0 10T might be a good candidate. It weighs 18 pounds, you could get the gig bag with shoulder strap. I'd say it's plenty loud for smallish gigs and rehearsals, unless you're playing psychobilly. It is 175 watts or 300 with the extension speaker. I'm using the GB 10T speaker with the shuttle 6.0 head for loud gigs. It's just the stage monitor as there's always a PA but it cuts through the mix nicely without sounding too harsh.
