Unplug Tweeter On 3-Way Cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
Is there any down side other than losing frequencies above 3.5K?

I'm reinstalling my Em 3015LF in my Carvin LS1503 for a gig next weekend. I don't need or use extreme highs and this cab crosses over at 3500 Hz, so I'm considering disconnecting the leads to the compression driver and just going with the 15" + 6.5" mid, crossed over at 500 Hz until I get my two-way x-over built.

Just trying to avoid going back in and reconnect it if it doesn't work out. (just lazy I guess!)

Eric, this does'nt answer your question, but, did you ever try the 3015 in that cab? It fits alot better than the LF.

Naw...I intended to but funds ran short so that plan went to the back burner. I used the cab with stock speaker a couple of weeks ago for the first time in 2 1/2 years. Did a good job for me on that gig so I decided to start using it again. You may recall, i put it on the shelf after having distortion problems right after getting it. GB & I eventually concluded that it was probably crossover related, but I've yet to have the original x-over rebuilt.
(It has the replacement x-over from Carvin at present.)

I was gonna swap my LF with Greenboy's 3015 a couple of months ago but we scrapped that plan and I just decided to try the LF again.

The link bobcruz put up has the answers. In short, yes, it can cause problems/damage. You could put a resistor where the tweeter was or to make it easy, I guess you could leave it all hooked up and dump the treble controls at the amp.
