Unsure about Ampeg SVT 1000 head.

Hey there,

I've been playing bass for a bit and currently only have a small practice amp at home which obviously isn't cutting it for the long term. I've been looking around at head/cab options good enough to handle practising with drums as well as something good enough to play smallish shows with enough output.

I was initially looking around the $1000-$1200AUD mark for a head an cab together and was looking at options like the Fender Rumble 350 head and 410 cab, as well as some other lower end options. I was in my small local guitar shop today and saw they had a AMPEG SVT 1000 head reduced from $3700 to $780ish (AUD) which obviously caught my eye.

I was just wondering if anyone would be able to give me some more detailed information about the SVT1000 head and weather it would be able to be run through a 410 cab like the rumble.

I wanted something that would last and be adaptable for whatever I wanted to do an thought it might be a good investment.

Thanks for the read,

Cheers.

I looked at the rumble 350, ended up getting the pf500 from billy Hyde for $649 and the ashdown 410 mag cab for 599. Happy with my choice.
Cos I'm running 8ohms its putting out 300 watts . Plenty

From what I have learned on this site, Australia prices are killer for bass players. The SVT 1000 should work out well with a 410.

http://www.ampeg.com/pdf/SVT1000.pdf

680 watts at 8 ohms would work great in a band situation. Do not skimp on a cab though. This head will be useless with a garbage 410. 4 ohm power is 1000 watts.

As far as tone, you need to try it out. If it is based on the B-2RE tone style, the mids are scooped at around 600hz and the 40-60hz region is boosted with the knobs at noon.

There's nothing wrong with ashdown cabs, they don't cause all the problems the Ampeg ones seem to cause with the pf range.

So would the SVT1000 work acceptably through something like the rumble 410 or another 8ohm cab like this?

Ashdown ABM410T Evo II Bass Cabinet|Allans Music + Billy Hyde Price! $649.00 - Allans Music + Billy Hyde. Australia's leading music store.

Do you think the SVT1000 is worth the 780$? Obviously it's been drastically reduced from a previous 3700$ but I don't know if that's because they've had the head for a long time or it just doesn't sell.

Id find out y the price drop. That's massive. They could be competing with the pf range, old stock, ex demo, there has to be a catch. Discontinued model. If u don't buy it for that price, I will. Lol.
