| Is the upgrade to a Peavey V-B2 worth it?

I am in the midst of currently upgrading my rig. I recently purchased a Peavey 2X15 Black Widow D cabinet. The next step is upgrading the head from a Hartke 2000. The 2000 is a decent head, it is plenty loud for my purposes, and it has served me well for a long time (probably about 14 years and I bought it used). The main problem with Hartke is I find it sort of boring.
I have been really wanting a tube head, but the only one I have ever played is the SVT Classic. I would love to buy a classic but it is simple out of my price range. What is in my price range is a used V-B2. I have never played a V-B2 and though they may have one at the local store I doubt I would really be able to get a feel at store volumes for if this is the right amp.
What I am wondering is would a V-B2 really be much of upgrade over the 2000? What about the 2000 with a VT in front of it (this would almost certainly solve the boring problem)? I am willing to deal with the weight of a tube amp so that is not a concern. |
