Upgrade svt speakers with markbass neo spks.

Sign in to disble this ad
Would it be possible to upgrade the speakers in my 8-10 svt with marbass neodymium B&C speakers out of a markbass 8-10 cabinet? I am hoping it would give me more headroom and less weight. Both cabinets are similar. Any help would be appreciated greatly.

doubtful you'd get more headroom but it might work.

According to their site, the Markbass cab is ported, and crossed over between the woofer and tweeters at 3.5khz.

I have no idea if that means that they wouldn't do well in an Ampeg 810 cab, but keep that in mind, because the Ampeg cab is sealed, not ported, and has no tweeters.

Oh, never mind then. Is that on their site? I'm having a hard time finding it.

Edit: Never mind, found it. Just wasn't as obvious as the ported one. Looks very similar to an SVT cab.

the only thing i'd caution you about is that ampeg uses 32 ohm speakers and i believe markbass uses 8 ohm speakers, so if they do, you'll have to wire them a different way than standard ampeg wiring. other than that, no harm in trying it.

How do they get a 4 ohm cab from eight 8 ohm speakers?

Why not keep them in the Mark cabinet?

My band insists I use the svt. I am just trying to save some weight and gain some headroom.

If all the band wants is the vibe of the Ampeg (and I'm sure that's all it is) just mod the grill cloth from the Ampeg & make it fit the Mark. Besides look at your own title; the word 'upgrade' is used. The CL108 is too nice of a cab to be canibalized like that. What did it ever do to you?!

No offense, but that is just pathetic.

+1

Use what you want. As long as it`s reliable and fits the band then no harm, no foul.

a little, but hey, presentation counts. not that a cl108 wouldn't look badass on stage, but let's face it, the ampeg stuff does look nicer.

If it's all about the presentation and looks, then go with the new grill idea. Make it look like an Ampeg - they probably would not even know.

4 8s in series /parallel=8 ohms. Add another identical set of 4 x8s in series/parallel, in parallel with the first set gives you 4.

Or look at it like 2 8 ohm speakers in series is 16 ohms.

In parallel with 3 more identically wired speakers gets you to 4.

I kind of like the swapping grills idea. The Ampeg cab is likely much heavier construction to support the heavier speakers. Even with the neo speakers it won't be as light as the Markbass. If they don't notice after a while, you can spill the beans or not. Your choice.

I was in a band, had a Beyer ribbon mike, they had SM58s. SM58 had hotter output for one thing, I can't sing loud on the other, kept asking them to turn my mike up, they kept saying sing louder. So I got in early one night before the gig, turned the attenuator to where I thought it should be, removed the knob, and put the knob back on pointing to where they thought it should be. Problem solved...

Exactly! From my experience the guys who care so much about that image probably won't have enough smarts to detect the fake.

I agree. They look like very similar cabs. The dimensions can't be that off. Just use the Ampeg Grillcloth.

I assume this means they're paying the OP.
