Upgrading - opinions

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello guys,

I have so much amp/cab setups in mind I just thought I could come here and ask for opinions which could guide me on my next purchase.

I play in a loud alternative/modern rock band and I am running my bass and effects through an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro and 2 Eden D210XLTs.

Before that, I ran the head through an Ampeg SVT410HLF (bought the Edens as a replacement when I sent the 410 to Ampeg for repairs - 7 months ago, still haven't got it back), but I realized that the Edens sound much better to my ears than the Ampeg.

However, I still think it could be better. I'd like my tone to be a bit cleaner (more headroom) and a liiitle bit less honky (Eden mid bump sometimes being too much). I would also like to have only one cab if possible. I have recently tried a couple of sealed/tweeterless cabs and thought that might be the deal.

I have thought about a couple of options, including amp upgrade, maybe some of you guys can help me out on which one to decide :

1)Ampeg SVT-3 Pro ---> 2X Eden D210XSTs
2)Forgot about #2
3)Ampeg SVT-3 Pro ---> Bergantino NV610
4)Ampeg SVT-4 Pro ---> Eden D210XST /XLT / 2 x D210XLTs
5)Ampeg SVT-4 Pro ---> Ampeg SVT410HLF (?)
6) None of the above (specify)
7) All of the above ()

As you can see, I love the tone of my amp, just thinking about a better cab setup that could make me like it more.

obvious answer is keep the head, get more spkrs, like the NV610- but if you want something crisper and cleaner, that's not really the best amp. A Mesa M6 or M9 Carbine would amaze you, through a good cab with plenty of it's own spkrs.

I would keep the Eden cab and get an Eden head.

Thanks for your answer. It might have sounded a bit confusing when I said I wanted a "cleaner" tone, in fact I just want a little bit more headroom so it still sounds Ampeg-esque, but just a little bit less grindy or boomy at high volumes.

The NV610 is my ideal option, though I can't afford it until I sell both the Eden cabs + the Ampeg cab (which I still haven't received)
