Upgrading the speaker of Marshall MB30

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all.

Couple of months ago I got a Marshall MB30 as a home practice amp. While I like the sound, I've been thinking what would be a good upgrade to the stock unit. Local dealer sells Eminence spekaers, so I would like to ask how much of a sound improvement I can expect from changing the stock 10" speaker to Eminence Beta-10A? Considering that the speaker alone costs 1/3 of the price of the whole amp, my guess is that there should be some improvement, but what can I expect?

You will gain nothing by upgrading the speaker in a 30 watt solid state practice amp. Better to save your money for a better amp.

I do have a better amp with a 4x10 cab, but it's staying in our practise place. This one is a home practise amp, and as such is quite nice.

I think messing around with speakers is truly great fun.

But I think Dubya said something about putting lipstick on a sow's ear won't get fooled again.

I'm not quite sure what you were trying to say, but upgrading my 4x10 speakers made a lot of difference. I don't see why it shouldn't make some on a small amp as well.

Is there someone wha has done it, otherwize we all have opinions about things we have not tried.

A speaker cabinet is designed to match the speaker being used. Making a change can improve the cabinet, make it worse, or make little change.

If you like the sound of the amp, why is there a need to make a change? But it's your money...
