Upgrading speakers question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Peavey 210TX cabinet that sounds great, albeit low powered.
I was thinking of upgrading the 10" drivers with something more powerful.
Maybe something like the Eminence Deltalite II 2510 Neo 10 drivers.
My question is, would the existing crossover be ok with higher power or would I need to replace that as well?
Thanks!

Impossible to say without knowing the specs of the components. It's also prudent to software model the cab with both the existing drivers and the ones you intend to use to be sure there's any advantage in replacing them.

Thinking of replacing with these:
*Power handling: 250 watts RMS/600 watts max
*VCdia: 2.5" *Le: 0.40 mH
*Impedance: 8 ohms *Re: 5.06 ohms
*Frequency range: 60-4,000 Hz
*Magnet weight: 7 oz. *Fs: 53 Hz
*Sensitivity: 97.3 dB 1W/1m
*Vas: 1.9 cu. ft. *Qms: 5.76 *Qes: 0.45 *Qts: 0.42 *Xmax: 4.2 mm

I don't know how to software model the cab with the drivers.
I there an online tool for that?
Thanks!

The existing speakers aren't even suitable for a ported design (high Qts).
I don't know about these deltalites, I had a pair but they went into the garbage can once I got my Oberton 10's.
If you want a cheap replacement that can move some air try a pair of these http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=295-030

Well that makes me weary of all these specs because the speakers sound great in the ported cabinet.

Thanks, I will check those out.

My question is still a mystery. Will the crossover support higher wattage?
I'll try to call Peavey and find out.
Thanks all!

I guess there is are no crossover parts in series with the 10 inch speakers. So they only thing you need to know is if the tweeter with crossover can handle more power. If it has a pritection circuit in it then you will not have any risk that you'll damage the tweeter.
But, you can indeed call Peavey and listen what they have to say.
