Urgent! Epifani UL-502 preamp problem...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I am in Istanbul, Turkey at the moment playing some concerts with my UL-502. Here is what happened today...

At the beginning of the rehearsal, I could not have any sound from the amp. I plugged in a keyboard to see if the problem was with my bass or not, and I had a distorted and crackly sound. As Istanbul is a very humid city, I assumed the Gain pots of the amp were oxidized. In order to get over the problem, I turned the Master Volume all the way up and played the bass with a very strong attack. After a few strong notes, the amp started working fine.

The same thing happened when I turned on the amp at the soundcheck as well. I got over the problem doing the same thing again. However, towards the end of the first set, the preamp sections of the amp died.

As I had an external preamp with me, I simply plugged in the pre to the Return of the effect loop and completed the gig fine.

Unfortunately, I have 4 more gigs (one of which is tomorrow - Tuesday) and I do not know how I can figure out what happened to the preamps. Also, I do not know any good technician here, so I am not sure if I can trust a random guy. I would appreciate if you can chime in your 0.02 cents regarding some troubleshooting!

Best,

Alper
