USA built small combo suitable for 5 string

I hope to be buying a small bass rig, USA made, that will handle a 5 string, sometime later this year, Kind of leaning toward the smaller combos, but it's gotta be able to carry a clean B. Studio, small to medium gigs, etc. Not a metal head, but I do want enough guts for classic rock/blues with and without PA support.

So, my friends, what 's out there that can handle it?

Looking at all price ranges at this point.

Thanks to all...

Up to medium gigs w/o PA I'm thinking G-K MB212 series I or II. 500 watts and 2 12". The NEO 212 and NEO 412's I have are very good with my low B.

Yes all G-K amps, combos and cabs are built in California as of 01/02/2012. Production in the G-K China plant ended 12/31/2011 by order of the owner Robert A Gallien.

I haven't played on one but look at the Peavey Tour series combos.

I had a new tnt, decent combo but IMO it didn't handle the B that well.

+1 to the mb212. Never owned one but tested a couple, definitely could handle the job

Greenboy is making combos with factory support from Aguilar?

You are right, but any of his builders will build a head space into a cab if you ask for it. Fits the same criteria of a "combo" as a mesa walkabout.

I agree on the Greenboy stuff, except that, if it were me, I'd go with a fEarful 12/6 (1?) Cube with an airhead. Amp of your choice. Nothing hits a 'B' in a small package like a real fEarful.

Another place you could peruse is carvin.com. There might well be something on the site that strikes your fancy. (Whatever a fancy is! )

Genz Benz. I use a 3.0 Shuttle 10t in small bars with drummers. No problem for the B string as I walk up the low C and D to a G chord. Not a lot of headroom with this rig AND a drummer though it work just fine in a small bar. With a drummer in a med. room, you'll need at least a Genz 6.2 12" with an extra 12" cab. IMHO, plenty of headroom for a 200 person room. YMMV, depending on the room acoustics.

I am surprised we haven't seen any offshore copies of GK amps, yet; aren't some Behringer/Bugera amps a bit too close for comfort to certain Ampeg amp models?

Yes there are. G-K has the benefit of being #2 I believe. If another brand over-takes the considered #1 spot I'm sure copies will be done.

I believe they are only designed in the US, production moved.
