used Ampeg @ GC: to buy or not to buy?

Sign in to disble this ad
My local GC has a AMPEG SVT-212E in the used section for $249. Wondering if its worth my time. Its in "used" shape, but not horrible. I have an old Fender BXR 100 combo, that I could afford to get rid of and upgrade a bit. Just curious as to if this cab is a good price for what it is. Ill post pics of it later, Im at work right now, until then Id like some input.

ps- whats a decent head to attach to this?

Test the cab. Decide if you like it or not. Since you can't hook it to your combo, you'll be hearing the tone provided by both the cab and the head.

There are fifty possible heads you could use with the cab; you have to listen to some and decide which ones you like and which you hate.

Others will post price opinions.

TEST IT, and test it LOUD though either your head or the something close to what you are using.

$249 is not much money, so if you get burned, it's not the end of the world.

The advice to give it a good "loud" test is good advice. A Mesa Walkabout at our local GC had a blown speaker, which became real obvious at high volumes. The salesman acted shocked when I pointed it out.?!

Yeah I agree...test it as best you can. However, even if it has speaker damage...geezzz...doesn't cost that much to replace a blown speaker

Good Luck!!
