Used Cab with spraypaint on it - paint over or try to remove?

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay guys.... so while I gather my dollars for my new Genz Benz Acquisitions, I grabbed a late 80's all plywood Ampeg SVT-810e. Sounds great. However, this belonged to another touring artist before me, and the band's name is stenciled on the back and side of the cabinet in silver spray paint and I want it off.

I cant think of anything that will effectively remove the paint without melting the tolex as well, or at least horribly discolor it....I was thinking about just spray painting the whole thing.

Any advice TB'ers?

Worked like a charm for me. I think I found it at Lowes at the time - don't remember. I guess as with anything, test it on a small area first. I used it on a home made cab with what I think was just a standard vinyl tolex.

You could just roll Duratex over it. It's sort of like a roll-on bedliner. But you might need to primer the Tolex, and could be more trouble that it's worth. They have colors other than black, which could be awesome.

that sounds very nice and it works on vinyl , I would try that, would be cheaper and easier then painting
