Using 2 amps with 2 cabs.

I have Mesa PH115 and PH210 cabs and a Mesa Carbine 9 and a Genz Benz Suttle 9.0. I would like to power the cabs separately with this setup. I would like some ideas on what would be the best way to go about that. Thanks.

Y cable, or ABY box.

Make sure that the box you use is specifically designed for this purpose: a simple y-adapter can't be used, because then you'll be connecting the two amps' inputs, which is a bad thing.

actually you're good if you want to use a y in this situation. it's only when recombining two signals into one amp where you can go wrong with one.

or stereo if you have a ric,or something like it.....i'm actually planning to do that with my ric....butch at bayou will build you a stereo in 2 mono out box for 20 bucks +shipping and you'll need a stereo cable.....i planned on using my 400+/v4b to do it but it now seems that it will be much too loud before it gets the sound i want so i will scale down to the v4b as my clean amp and find a lower watt tube amp for the dirt....into 2 4x10's or 2 2x12's,or split a fridge....i'm still thinkin' it over

the best way would probably be something like this:

Radial JD-7 Injector

rbonner turned me on to these. He's had good experience with them eliminating hum with his mega multi amp rig. I don't have a JD-7 yet, but it would make running multiple amps much cleaner. You can run each head independently and use each of their preamps this way.

Quick and dirty way is tuner out > instrument input. I've had pretty good results with this. Or pre-eq line out > instrument in. YMMV

This would be my choice, too - and I'd try both master/slave combos to see which way I preferred it...

Do a Google search for Lehle. You will find your answer there.

I am improvising a similar setup for the practice space until I can find a used head that is powerful enough to drive both of my cabs and is also cheep. I think that combining the differing sounds of each head is more complicated than I want or intend, so I am gonna run an instrument cable from the Line Out of Amp A into the Effects Return of Amp B. That way I will bypass the EQ of Amp B and just use it as a power amp. Both cabs will have Amp A's tone but each cab will be independently powered by a separate head.

I think that’s what folks meant by “master/slave” but I thought it might be helpful to OP or another reader to spell it out.

You are all so boring with your master / slave configurations. If I were going to do this (which I do occasionally) I run my bass into two amps via a Y-cable. My favorite is my SVT-II into Genz Benz 610 and then a small tube amp blowing its balls apart on the side with a small cab 1x10 or 1x12 that could be miked during a live show.

Do you want one amp to handle all the eq or do you want each amp to operate independantly?

The only problems I see with a Y cable at the input to the 2 amps is the potential for ground loops between the 2 amps and (if using a passive bass) possible loading of the pickups due to the input impedances being paralleled. An active driven transformer isolation device is the solution to both of these issues IMO.
