I'm in 2 rock bands and run a GK MB2500 through a Madison cab loaded with 2 Hartke 10s (weight is 39 lbs). It handles the low B with no problems and works fine for most of the bars in my area. I'm fortunate to play with a guitarist who doesn't crank his volume to 11, plus he's a good sound guy. When we play larger venues, he runs me through the PA.

I think when it comes to 210 cabs you have to be careful with which type and brand. I've always liked the Edens, GK RBH, only the BRX 10.2 Carvins, and the Acme's are cool but they take lot of power to run, so you need to do your homework.

Then the amp matters too, I had to modify my SWR to get the most out of it by bypassing the Aural Enhancer. So, your Behringer although 300 watts might not be the best quality 300 watts to match a high quality 210 you'll need to go solo? Also depends on your gig size?
Yeah, good point. When i run both cabs i use a 2 ohm stable carvin head. The brx line no longer uses the neo's which would probably have me looking to another brand like avatar. There are alot of good options depending on what you want to spend.

BIG +1 on not all 210 cabinets being equal...

I used just one of my 210 Avatar Neo cabinets at a job last night, but I did have FOH support. (Usually I run two Avatar 210 cabinets stacked as a vertical 410.)

I'm with a fairly loud, 6 pcs., country/rock group, we played to roughfully 300+ partying people last night.
I used my G.K. MB2-500 head and a passive 4 Fender Jazz.

The single Avatar cabinet was plenty!
(But.......I work with a drummer who knows how to control his volume, and "to my ears" the Avatar 210 cabinets are some of the louder 210 cabs commerically available.....and I've auditioned a bunch of em'.)

Like I said before I play in several bands, but they are all pretty much garage-rock/surfy/pop type bands. 3-4 members with simple guitar/bass/drums. We don't have a gigging PA, we usually play places that provide the PA. None of my guitar players have huge stacks or play monster metal riffs...hope this helps.

I play through a single 12" most of the time. If I think I need more volume (I really don't) I add a 2x10. Both are Genz-Benz Shuttle cabs that weigh under 35 pounds.

Unless you're in a really loud band, I don't know why a decent 2x10 won't do it for you. For "garage-rock/surfy/pop type bands", there's no reason a 2x10 wouldn't be more than enough. But as noted above, a 2x12 would be even better.

And BTW - I agree with you about a 1x15. They're big, heavy and bulky.

Commander Low-buck (my alter ego) sez if you like the tone of your current 15" box, grab a second unit and put wheels on both of 'em. As long as you don't have to deal with staircases, etc, you can roll them fairly easily. You also can choose to use 1 or 2 boxes depending on the gig, and not have to screw with your EQ settings all the time

I play a Jazz and upright bass through an MB500 and a GK 410 Neo. I love the sound I'm getting, but am also thinking of downsizing from the 4x10 to a 2x10 for the sake of portability. I practice and gig several times a week so am constantly hauling my gear around and it would be nice to shave a bit of weight and space off that. Is switching to a 2x10, another GK for arguments sake, going to make a drastic change in sound and tone from the 4x10 or is it more an issue of volume output? I suppose if I switch to a 2x10 I could always line out through the PA if needed, but haven't played around with that option too much.

Thanks for the advice everyone. After some research, I'm thinking about getting an Avatar Neo 210 and just trying to gig with that. I'll be keeping my 1x15 for those rare outdoor/festival show. Can't wait for my tax return

A Salsa/Merangue house band in Miami has a GK 2x10 combo for the bass. It runs 280 watts into the 2 tens and 50 watts into the tweeter. They do run through two subs, but when they set the EQ pretty much flat and back off a tad on the bass, that little combo really rocks. They have 3 percusionists, 3 horns, and 3 keyboards. Bass always sounds pretty good to me. Room is about 60' x 100' with a 15' ceiling. (I sub bass with them occasionally) I would guess the new GK 2x10 combo would sound pretty close.

I have SWR 2x10 that is all that I have ever needed, I can shake just about any room with my volume on 1. I had the entire stage vibrating the other day when I was hitting the low B.

I've done it many times. Micro VR + SVT 210av. But I have two of the cabs and I prefer that. I just get lazy

It really depends on the room and the load-in. If you're playing coffee houses and small bars, a single 2x10 is usually plenty. When I play bigger rooms and outdoor gigs I gotta have at least my 4x10 - and maybe even stack the 2x10 if I've got time.

I got to use a Bag End 2x10 and a beat up GK 400 (or 800) head at Terra Blues in NYC. It was a beast of a rig - killer loud - handled my 5 string with ease. It's all a matter of finding that right combo. Any luck thus far?

There have been several post that have been right on. A single 210 isn't enough for my gig either. I need at least a 410 or a couple of 210s.

1 210 is plenty for most 4 string gigs. Going to a 5er where you ride the B string a lot I like to add a second cab for a more clarity.

I read all the posts about using a single 2x10 at a gig and I shake my head. I KNOW it would never work for me. I'm very, very conservative with my equipment. I much prefer to have too much than too little. In a vertical stack both of my cabinets take up the same stage area as one so I use two. This means that no matter how the gig goes, I'll always have enough. Possibly this is why I have never blown a driver in actual use. Half way through the third set is not the time to realize you should have brought a second cabinet.
