Question Using a loop pedal as an A/B switch into 2 channel tube amp

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there, wasn't really sure where to put this as it is a kind of 2-part question.

Can I use my loop pedal as an A/B switch to select either of the 2 different preamp channels in this bass-amp of mine?

The bass amp is a Jansen Bass 75, which is somewhat like a Fender Bassman. There are 2 inputs per channel on my amp also. (see below)

Now, I understand that with these amps you can link the channels to activate both preamp sections, but I'm not sure I want to do this, I just want to switch between 2 different preamp settings on the amp.

Then again, I understand one channel might be low gain, one might be high-gain, so I may have this all wrong. Or is each channel the same (at least on the fenders), but 1 of the 2 inputs is low gain?

So yeah, can I use my loop pedal like this (below) to act as a preamp channel selector?

Cheers

Just to clarify on my diagram, the magenta line is plugged into the "out" on the loop pedal.

if your loop pedal has ab capabilities, absolutely you can. no idea what the channels do in your amp, though. you're on your own figuring that out.

As I understand it, the loop pedal I have is about as basic as you can get. It's either straight through (main in > main out), or when engaged, the circuit changes it's route to go out the "send", then back through the "return" input, then through the "main out".

I believe I can use it as an A/B switch because I've had problems in the past where I had a dead patch cable between the "send" and "return" and when I engaged it, there was no signal. Would this not be the same with other loop pedals?

you can do this without problem. That's what I do with my Boss LS-2 and my Ampeg SVT.
