Using a PA as your bass amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
What would be the pros and cons of using a PA as your bass amp. I have heard of pros doing this for clarity in some settings. What's your take?

(and I don't mean using the THE PA....I mean using a PA as your amp/cab etc.)

I've played through this rig and it rocks. If I had the cash and the crew, I'd use exactly this. However, I don't, so I don't. However, I like the fEARful cabs because they are much more PA-like than standard bass cabinets, so I am more certain that that the signal I send to the FOH is what I want, than something eq'ed for some really colored speakers.

If that is your PA(pictured ) then why not but if you have a small PA without a sub and no adequate speakers you are in for a problem. I own a QSC K Sub with (2) K 12's . These are all powered units and rated at 1000 watts each. This is a loud system but I would not run it for my bass except in emergencies. I did connect my K Sub to my SVT 4 Pro in line with my 810E. It worked but its not what I wanted to do. This Pa is for dj work and for vocals. I use it with a Yamaha board and if I wanted to I could mic my bass amp (810) in to it or even run a line to it but I won't do it as a reg. way of hearing the bass. I did also test my bass(and guitar) by going through my Yamaha board (with special effects) with my QSC. It is fun to try things out but I don't to stress out my PA system with my bass set-up, its not needed.
