Using Peavey Basic 40 as cab for Ampeg SVT-3 pro

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Peavey Basic 40 combo, it has a "Pre amp out/Power amp in" jack on the front. could I plug an Ampeg SVT-3 pro head into this jack, without harming the head or combo? I will be buying a cabinet in a few weeks, but in the mean time would like to use the Ampeg if possible, just to try it out (30 day warranty) I purchased this at a pawn shop and just didn't have the funds for a cabinet at this time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, It'll be safe to connect your SVT-3 Effects send jack to the Peaveys Power amp in. You'll be using the Ampegs preamp section to drive the Peaveys poweramp and speaker.

But don't use that as a judgement of the tone of the SVT-3. I think you'll be bypassing the driver tubes between the pre and power section of the SVT-3 by doing this.

Just DON'T use the speaker out from the Ampeg into anything except an actual speaker cab. What they're describing above is using the 3Pro as an external preamp, and the Peavey combo as both the poweramp and speaker.
