Using a U5 with a SVT-CL

Sign in to disble this ad
If i were to hook up the output of an SVT-CL (which as we all know is rated at 300w) to the "Speaker In" input on an Avalon U5, (rated at 400w max) would I really ever have to worry about overloading the U5? I understand transient peaks in volume (kind of), but will wattage fluctuate that much?

Basically I just want to know if i will ever have to worry about not going over a certain level on the amp for fear of roasting the U5.

Oh, and if it were you, would you put the U5 in front of the amps input?

if you really crank your svt hard into distortion, you might, but under normal circumstances, no. and running a di through the speaker out of the cl is way better than running a di on its own.

i do think that i'll be at least stressing the head if not running it into full distortion. I usually keep a tube screamer and BDDI in my chain for drive

but then again that shouldnt really stress the output side of the amp as much should it?

is there any way to test the output wattage? with a scope or something similar?
