USPS Insurance help

Sign in to disble this ad
A friend of mine has a Markbass F1 which he got just over a week ago, I went over to have a go because I was thinking about buying one. Jamming away at not high volume and then the volume died by half and then completely while I was messing with the bass volume to see if I had knocked it

We turned it off and left it while looking through the (crap) manual to see if there was anything in there, there wasn't, so we turned it back on and it worked fine... on closer inspection the cooling fan wasn't turning, so I gave it a poke and it came to life! It now randomly doesn't come on, but when it does or you poke it then it stays on

However, it looks like either the seller was a bastage or the item was damaged in transit, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice in this situation before he rings USPS since he organised the pickup apparently?

I mean how could you prove it was damaged in transit with a case like this?

What do you mean? Did USPS deliver it and he picked it up at the post office?

I think if the box has no signs of abuse and the amp isn't visibly damaged from the outside you have no way of proving at all that it was USPS's fault...and actually you have no way of knowing that.

The seller could have had an issue with the fan and not disclosed it (ebay I'm assuming?) or it could just be a coincidence.

Had your friend played it for a week with no problems? If so I think he's out of luck as far as getting USPS or even the seller to claim any responsibility for it.

At the most I'd have him email the seller and mention it, and if he says there was no problem (which I 100% expect him to say), then see if it's still under warranty, and call Markbass. That's really all he can do.

So if the box is damaged that it came in then hes got a chance, that's a bit strange because you could just wack it with a baseball bat a few times and say that's how it arrived?

No it's the first time he's had it working that's why I went around!

I don't know the details of the delivery/pickup, just that it was via USPS.

It's the seller's problem, not yours. If it was damaged in transit then HE will be able to claim the refund which he is about to pay you.

Then if the box and the outside of the amp doesn't show any damage he has to contact the seller and go through the proper channels with paypal etc.. if he wants to.

What I would do is also contact Markbass and see what I'd have to do to get it fixed, because it WAS working...but you know, if it stopped working and then came to life when you poke it, it could just be a loose wire, which could have happened during transit.

Did you read the entire post, my friend arranged the shipping so surely it's he who will have to claim?

Yes, they only deal with the shipper.

The fans are very cheap and easy to replace and do break down.
I suggest you just buy a new fan for it and pop it in yourself.

It's not my amp, the problem with this new fangled amps is they're impossible to repair if something sinister has gone wrong with it and basically it's a case of having a new one.

If he doesn't get any joy with USPS the i'll recommend this to him.

I was just hoping for some advice on what to say and how to handle USPS

I understand... I'm just saying my Markbass amp had a fan problem when it was new and I watched the tech replace it easily and he said they are cheap crap computer type fans.

You can't. Replace the fan.
