I have an Ampeg V-4 I purchased new in 1976. Several years ago, it blew a fuse when I fired it up. At that time I found a component in the reverb circuit that was shorted. I remove the component and that got the amp working, but the reverb no longer worked (not a big surprise!). At the time I removed this thing I was not sure what exactly it was. As I remember I had a schematic (not the one glued to the top of the chassis apparently) that showed it with a symbol something like this:
(this is from memory which is sometimes faulty!

)
The part itself looked like a small wirewound resistor. I saved it but have no idea where it is now. I'm sure it didn't have any markings that I could decipher.
I've been using the amp ever since, but haven't had it on for the last couple years. I have decided now tho, that I'd like to try and fix the reverb. I just pulled the chassis, and there's no symbol like the one above on the schematic on the chassis (nor in any I found online). I opened it up and took a look at the reverb board, and as far as I can tell there is only one thing missing and that it capacitor C208 (circled below)
So I figure I'll replace that and see how it goes. The reason for the post is that I didn't really think that capacitor being gone would completely disable the reverb and wondered if anyone would know? Being shorted could definitely take out the fuse, and perhaps it took something else as well, or something else took it out.
I have had some electronics training (a few years before this amp was built!), and I can work on stuff, but I've never been very good at troubleshooting.
Oh, I also modded this rig not long after I got it! I added a master volume control, and a jack so that a Fender Volume pedal could be used in place of the master volume on the amp. If anyone is interested in that mod, I'll be posting the details in a separate thread a bit later.
