Finally got one. Early 70s magnavox era. I got it for $500 and the guys brother lives in my town so we are meeting at his house. The pots are a little scratchy but otrher than that it's in perfect working order. Now I just need to find a cab to go with it. I'm thinking a 410. I currently have a Fender bassman 250/210 combo, so I'm looking for a lttle more ooph. any suggestions?

By chance is this the one on the boston CL? Sounds like from your description of the scratchy pots. If it is good score. The thing I like about V4s is that they can run 2 4 or 8 ohms, so you can really use just about any cab or combination thereof. Personally, I've always liked the sound of a nice sealed cab with 10s with that head. When I had mine, I used it with an ampeg 610HLF and vintage ampeg 4x10 and 8x10 cabs mostly. Other cabs here and there. It's a great head. Hope you enjoy.

My buddy runs his (my old one I sold to him ) through a vintage Ampeg 2x15. I used to run it through a single Orange 15" and it sure sounded really nice!

Corey is right, one of the reasons this is a great amp is that you can switch the Ohms to make it work with almost any combo of cabs

okay so I'm really thinking about a 4x10 cab. Now for the next question. Should I get a 4ohm or 8ohm cab? whats the difference? I have read the sticky and I am all confused.

Your V4B has an ohm selector switch (2, 4 or 8) you set to match your cab loads. The amps max output level is the same at all of its ohm settings, so you could could choose 4 or 8 ohm cabs.

You could run one or two 4-ohm cabs,
or your choice of 1, 2, 3 or 4 eight-ohm cabs.

ps:
If you think you might upgrade to an all tube SVT to be used with this cab at some point in the future... I'd suggest you choose 4 ohm cabs now.

+1 to this. My vintage ampeg cabs are 4 ohm (the 8x10) and 8 ohm (the 4x10). Since I've moved to the SVT, I can't use the 4x10 as much. I have used it in the past as an extension cab for my B15 and plan to use it with my Micro-VR, but it would be nice to be able to use either (or both) the 4x10 or the 8x10 with the SVT.
