Last night set up for an outdoor gig, did soundcheck and my VB2/NV610 was sounding great- had about 40 minutes to wait before the gig so I left the amp powered up with the mute switch on.
Take stage 5 minutes before we are supposed to start, go to check tuning and I got nothing- unplugged the tuner from the amp and plugged directly into the tuner and it's working.
Plugged back into the amp and took the mute switch off, no sound- everything is lit up, checked the standby switch, still no sound.
So I quickly pulled my MB500 out from it's computer bag, sat it on top of the VB2 and plugged cab, power cord, direct line and tumer into the GK.
Switched over and up and running in about 1 min. It's so awesome to have these mini amps available today which sound great on their own but make exceptional back-ups and easy to bring to a gig as a spare. 20 years ago this would have been a lot more hassle to drag a second amp along "just in case."
There's an authorized Peavey tech about a mile from my house, I'll take the VB2 in and have it repaired. Suspect the internal fuse from what I've read on here but who knows. I love the VB2 and it will still be my main amp when it's running again, but you can bet I'll always carry the MB500 along. I love my tube heads but I'm damn pleased with that GK right now....
About the VB2- Night before last coming off break a couple of times when I disengaged the mute it did the same thing but popped on after about 20 seconds. Bad tube? Have no idea what it could be. The power up with no sound seems like a familiar issue I have read about in various threads, hopefully it's not too serious/expensive. |
