I'm pretty careful about how I power the amp on and off, but no more so than with my other gear. My theory is that most of the fuse issues that users have reported are just careless use.

- Greg | nope - the one i wanted to try at GC was busted and sat there that way forever. The numerous issues were well-documented on TB. Bummer because I would love to see more real tube amps on the market.
Glad yours is working! |

| | Registered User | | | | I hate these sorta threads. Here I am with a nice VB-2 I just got here on TB and it sounds effin' awesome. I do some searches for people who also appreciate this amp only to first find..."Oh, its loaded with issues", "Fuse troubles for the rest of your days"... Can't I enjoy a nice week with my 1st tube head? I'm not affected by the select few here though, I've done my research and most threads I've found showed the VB-2 is a fantastic beast.
And to the OP, its everything you think it is plus a hundred. I share a Ampeg CL with a friend and this thing is neeeaaarly just as good. I say nearly because I'm experienced with the CL and can easily dial in any setting that comes to mind, still new to the VB-2 (that rhymes). I'm playing mine with a Stingray through a Mesa Powerhouse 1000 and it kicks you right in the NUTZ . Once I thought I found a great setting, I flip the mid switch and find more chest thumping awesomeness; I haven't found one crap setting yet. Be ready to be a knob turning junkie bro, its a superb amp.

| | | I've had my VB-2 for a year, neve one issue. It sounds fantastic! I also wouldn't judge a VB-2 thats been sitting a Guitar Center, give me a break, a bunch stuff on the showroom floor there is all busted up, we've all been there..... I love my VB-2 and just used it Friday night for practice, it was thump city and sounded fantastic. |

I've played it about 4-5 hours a week plus about 2 gigs per month since I've had it. I contently get compliments on my tone and I've never had any issues. Like Greg I've been careful with how I it power on, warm up and cool down and on how I carry it around. Of course this isn't anything new for me as I treat all of my gear like a bunch of new born babies.
As for the "issues", those were well documented and corrected by Peavey. It was an issue with the supplier of the fuses used in the first run of the VB-2s about 3 years ago. There are 100 posts regarding what the real problem was and what their fix was.
IMHO (and that of my band mates) you are now the proud owner of probably the best over all bass tube head out there. If I had $2000 to blow I would buy another VB-2 and save left over money. Hell, even my guitar player loves to play through it and he normally plays through a Mesa triple rectifier.

Originally Posted by pedroims actually I enjoy the amp but peavey's quality IME was a bummer, now buy any piece of peavey gear scares me to death | I've got a VB-2 that I've played a lot, a VB-3 that's getting lots of playing time, and a IPR-3000 that has been on my last three gigs. They're all built like tanks (well - a very light tank, in the case of the IPR), and they have performed flawlessly!
Just to provide another viewpoint: I've been playing for many years (and for about 15 of those years, I played full-time, travelling from state-to-state, club-to-club each month). I have never had to have any Peavey gear repaired at any time for any reason. On the other hand, I've had repairs performed on QSC and Mesa gear (with great CS), and I've had truly awful repair experiences with Epifani and Eden (with awful CS).
YMMV, of course. But I know what gear makes me feel secure when I'm playing!

Any issues from the early releases have been fully addressed by Peavey and it's a non issue. Those of you that own one and are digging it, right on. This beast rocks and the tone is tube heaven.

This includes a few tube guitar amps, and a bunch of their mark bass heads.
