Very loud popping and scratching on gain knob - WT-300

Sign in to disble this ad
Recently whenever I adjust the gain knob on my Eden WT-300 it makes horrendous popping and scratching noises at very loud volumes.

Volume is either very soft or very loud as I turn the knob - almost like the pot is not resisting at all.

Bad pot? Would a cap do that?

I would open it up and spray some contact cleaner into the pot. I did that for my wt300 and all is well.

Either very soft or very loud points to the pot

DO NOT USE WD-40!!! Get some DeoxIT from an electronic supply.

Heck, just power everything down and spin the knob up and down really fast a dozen times. Like you're trying to light a fire with a stick. It'll grind some of that crap out. At the very least, it should improve. Then you know you've just got dust in your pot. So to speak.

You may have the dreaded Eden bad pot scenario which requires sending the amp to Eden for replacement. If cleaning does not help, contact their customer service and see what they can do for you. Been there done that. It's been years since that happened to me but if I recall they had to replace a module or remove something that was hard to get to...good luck.

I sprayed some de-oxidizer in the pots and no luck. Also did the pot turny thing a month ago and that did not help at all. I'll call Eden and get a pot - there's a killer pro audio service place here that can pull it.
