Vintage Ampeg 810 needs speakers

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a chance to buy a 1970's Ampeg 8x10 cabinet, only problem is it needs a couple speakers. I might be able to get a decent deal on it, but i am wondering what i should expect to pay per speaker for replacements and what type i should get. Also it needs grill cloth. I saw that fliptops.net sold it by the foot but i am not sure if the guy has the frame... Any thoughts?

60 bucks per speaker. I got some with the correct specs, with Electro Harmonix labels (they just slap their label on it, they don' make the speaker, Eminence does I believe).

i imagine its tough to find the original CTS 137's for cheap, however replacement speakers should be a breeze on fliptops.

$60 seems decent. Replace three speakers for $180. I'm thinking of offering 100 bucks for the cab as is. I just hope is has the grill frame.

I've had to do some speaker replacements in the Ampeg SVT 8x10 cabinet from the mid 1990's, I used 2 of the Electro-Harmonix Speakers and used 2 of the original Eminence speakers and I used 4 of the Jensen Mods .... ended up with a very nice sounding cabinet .... as a side note ... I would not hesitate to do 8 of the Jensen Modes

From what I've been reading, the new Eminence B810 is supposed to be as close to a repro of the original CTS speakers that are in that cab that you can find. Fliptops sells those as well. If you talk to the dude there (Bruce? Bill? Can't recall) he will be able to make you anything you need to recondition the cab (they do make repro cabs as well). I had them build me a replacement grill for my 77 B40 cab, it was built quick and fits like a glove.

B810 speaker:

70s straight back grill:

70s angled back grill:

are the speakers in it? are they cts's? if yes to both, recone. cts speakers are the gold standard in those cabs.

Two speakers are missing. One is torn. I have not seen the cab yet, might go look today. I assume they are original but i really don't know.
