Tubes should NOT be shipped installed and the unused space in the amp cabinet should be rigid foam or cardboard filled. Double boxing with proper burst test for the weight of the amp needs to be used with minimum of 1 1/2" of rigid foam or cardboard between cartons. The case may have still seen some damage but the amp would MOST likely have been repairable. Overkill? Not if you are the person receiving the amp head.

It was from when MF was still offering free international shipping anyway, so it went back the next day, full refund.. Ponied up a bit extra and bought one locally

That explains it then! MF will ship out speakers in the inner-only carton. Many wind up damaged.

WHAT?

A MODERN SVT should require NOTHING to be replaced except a fuse or two, the changeover takes a few seconds longer than to remove and replace the chassis in the cabinet, and anyone charging $300 for that ought to be convicted of grand larceny.

What are they DOING to be charging $300?

As for the damaged unit.... that's insane..... but actually, proper packaging quite possibly COULD have helped out a lot. Depends on just how that was done.

I've seen an SVT that fell out of the trailer at 80 km/hr and had less damage

Everything in Australia is expensive! RRP on an SVT VR is $3800..

What's a typical "bench fee".... what you pay if they just tell you what's wrong, and don't fix it?

Because charging $300 to open it up, move a couple wires from one push-on tab to another, slip in a new fuse, and put it back together........... that should be a felony.
