Vintage Bassman discussion request - I have a circa 1970s ('69-'73) Bassman that is pictured here. I am trying to match a cab with it. Any discussion about suitable pairing? |
Anything but a vintage Fender bass cab ;) Vintage Fender bass cabs can sound good, but they're designed very poorly for anything but low volume work IMHO. |
+1 Jimmy. I would suggest an efficient 215 cab. |
I've got the 2X15 cab that is the mate for the head - but your right - it doesn't handle higher volumes (5.5+) well |
I have a bassman 100, and I use an aguilar DB212 cab with it. The aesthetics match. The DB cabs are sensitive (loud) which is nice with a low power tube amp. The DB cabs (DB212, 410) come in 4 ohms The DB cabs have a nice mid voice, which pairs nice with fender amps that are a little scooped in the mids. |
Your best bet is to build or have built a 215 cab using Eminence 3015 non LF's They sound great with lower power tube heads. The build that JohnK did is a perfect example. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/cu...-build-854517/ |

Great componets, great built cabinets, inexpensive, and they can be ordered with the black tolex and fender style grill cloth. www.avatarspeakers.com |

When the word 'efficient' is used here - what is the definition? |

With a low watt head, like your fender, you want an efficient cab to make the most out of the watts you have. |
One of these would work ... ![]() |
My cabinet would works great. Just send the amp my amp ! More seriously, I use a Ashdown VS-212-200. Mine works great with my pretty low wattage head (400RB). It should work great, and the vintage look of the cab is a plus. |
anything by Bag End or one or two EV TL-606 style cabs loaded with EV 15B's or eminence 3015 neo's. fwiw i've been gigging with bassman heads since 1987 |
