Vintage SVT+SLM 810e+? cab=???

Sign in to disble this ad
Im long winded but it will hopefully help in choosing a new well rounded cab for my needs. short version at bottom

Ok there are thread with a lot of the same topics I am about to cover but no answers so i'm starting my own. I am looking for a second cab to add to the rig in the title, a 1973 ish SVT and a early 2000's press board 810e. But i want to add another cab to my set up but unsure what to go with. I know the 810 of that era is really dark and kinda muddy so i want to match it with something with more definition and punch. Yes call me crazy but i am looking to add a 412 or a well rounded 215. Also far in the cards, cause their hard to come buy, a vintage Ampeg 810.

I play surprise/surprise down tuned stoner/sludge music that i'm writing and singing for, a big first for me. Yes its the new music craze, but i've been playing for 15+ years and have always been another bands hired gun. I have played ever music under the sun from death/speed metal, reggae, funk and RnB, 80's new wave, and top 40 pop. And my favorite style has been bands like COC, Crowbar, Floor, Sleep to name a few. Which comes to my other point i want this new cab to be used in a cover band environment (which i am also in) when my 115 wont be enough.

short version\/\/\/\/

So im looking for a cab that i can run at the same time with my SVT/810 to add some definition and can be a good stand alone with the svt or my Tone Hammer/power amp set up when i play with the cover band.

I will use tons of distortion for the stoner rig. And will need to handle a 2 ohm load since i will run with the 810 at same time.

Cabs Im considering
Bergantino 412 or 215
Aguilar 412
Emperor 412 or 215 ...or 612

And any others as long as they are not neo loaded, played a few and don't like them.

So I need some help please. I'm taking a trip to colorado next week and their is a used Aguilar gs412 I'm going to check out and that is the one highest on my list right now. So any help thanks.

If you want the same vibe as your 810 but more definition you might want to just bail the 810 and get a Bergantino NV610. Many say it's a better 810 than an 810.

That said...I haven't played one myself. I saw a guy use one and was floored with the sound though.

I'm pretty sure we have the same cab. I've been fussing with the articulation for years, cutting midbass, boosting upper mids/highs, and just generally fighting with it. I'm doing some experiments that you might find interesting though and will post pics and clips of what I've done. My initial testing has been really positive and insanely cheap.

Later,

James

My rig has a DBX 900 frame in it with two band parametrics right now. One to clear the mud and fix the whump in the 810.

This a low tech solution that will cost less than $30 and take less than an hour to do.

If you want to brighten up that cabinet. just change out the top 4 speakers to the Jensen Mods .... I did it to mine and it made a pretty significant difference in the sound of the cabinet, It's not that much money nor the time involved to do the speaker swap, plus it's reversable

i want to leave the cab stock for its boominess (is that a word ) and add a cab. If i thought to mod it i would just sell it. MAYBE i should just get rid of the 810 also and go a whole new route?

I absolutely love my EarCandy BassBomb 212. They are some of the greatest sounding cabs I've ever heard/played through. In terms of presence one of them went toe to toe with my Ampeg SVT610 and almost seemed to have more room than the 610.

When reading your post the first thing I immediately thought of was an Emperor 215, which you mentioned in your post. I would try to chase one of those down imo.

I have a second BassBomb on the way so I'll be running 4 12s in a vertical stack. The BassBombs literally handle anything I can throw at them. However you won't be able to try before you buy. Maybe a TB'er somewhat local to you owns one you could try out.
