Volume control

A casual band I'm in (just a bunch of old mates) rehearses in a room setup like this:

The Marshall playing guitarist, drummer, singer and myself all think I play at a suitable volume in this room.

The Vox playing guitarist has complained that there's not enough bass for him.

If I simply turn up the others complain!

Now, before you suggest that I move into his corner: I won't be doing that because he isn't a real good guitarist and I get thrown by all of his mistakes if I can hear him too clearly!

(We have been friends a long time and so he can't be simply be kicked out and replaced BTW.)

Probably a stupid question:
Now .....The spare PA speakers are of an unknown power rating/ohmage. They are twin 15s.
Can I run a cable, with in-line volume control, from one of the speaker outlets on my GB ShuttleMax 12.0 to one of the spare PA speakers?
NB: I need to be able to regulate the signal sent to them with an in-line potentiameter (volume control) if possible because I want to give the guitarist just enough volume through them to keep him happy.
My bass cab is rated at 900 watts / 4ohms so I can pump as much as I like into it. I can't be pumping the same power into these unknown quantity speakers.

I know the best setup for maximum bass volume is to have speakers together, etc etc. but that's not possible because as I said, everyone else in the band is happy with levels.

I don't think an inline volume control exists that will be able to handle the output of your Shuttle 12. It sounds kind of hodge-podge...maybe, even risky (both to the speaker and your amp). You don't want your amp to pop or your volume control to catlch fire...lol

It sounds like you're wanting to do this on the cheap, which is cool, but a more elegant solution would be to buy a powered PA speaker and plug tit into the direct out of the amp.

You can pick up a Harbinger 150-watt powered 12" PA speaker (APS12) for $199 or less ($169 on sale). That should do the trick.

I would have him pay for it, though, since he's the only one with the problem.

If he is of the opinion that you aren't loud enough for the AUDIENCE, then you might need to, as a group, sit him down for an intervention. If that doesn't work, group therapy might be in order...LOL

I agree--get a separate powered monitor, put it up on a couple milk crates so it's up closer to his head, and let him adjust his own level with the control on the monitor.

nice rendering!

maybe the guy is in a bass "null" due to room standing waves or whatever.

how about you both just move a little, you towards the drummer (and him), and him out of that corner somewhat?

that shuttlemax has a stereo power amp, but no way of panning or balancing the two amp outputs. they'll both go full-blast at the same level as each other no matter what.

Thanks. Google Sketchup makes it all very easy, and free!

You need another amp. For not much more the price of the Harbinger you could get a spare class-d gk head.

I don't know about Harbinger other than it's a Guitar Center house brand, and there are very little information published on them.

It can't be that hard to reposition things so your mate gets an earful of bass without you getting an earful of his guitar. Adding an extra bass amp is going to get really murky.

It must be hell loud in there already. Smallest room I ever did rock in was a two car garage.

Since you're so crash hot with the drawing, how about putting in the guitar and bass players!

I kind of gather the open wall is in fact a solid wall with a door and you're in opposite corners from the Vox player, and you have a disused Marshall rigs in the other corner. So many options for changing things about.
