Volume Drop mid song!? Help please...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hoping that someone might have an idea why my volume randomly drops out while I am playing...

Rig- Ampeg SVTIII being used as a power amp
Aguilar DB659 pre amp
BBE sonic maximizer

Cabinet- Schroeder 410

Bass- Roscoe LG 3005

Played a two hour set the other night and on our last song, my volume just completely dropped out. My stage volume was inaudible and if I wasn't also going through the PA, we would have been toast.

The problem is that if I take it to a technician, it might not do it. It has happened a couple of other times at practice, but tends to occur after I have been playing a while...

Greatly appreciate any ideas on what it might be.

Mil gracias,

Kevmon

Try playing through the Ampeg alone and see if you can reproduce the problem. If not then try again with the pre-amp alone into the SVT. If no, add the BBE and try yet again.

If your bass is active replace the battery.

Clean your effects loop jacks on both units. Corrosion in them is often a cause of problems like this. Either spray some contact cleaner in the jacks, or take a cord and run the plug in and out of each jack quickly 20 or 30 times. Contact cleaner is better but the plug will usually work in a pinch.

If it still occurs, you might have an intermittent tube that needs replaced. Beyond that and it's tech time, but usually it's one of these two problems, although with older gear it could be other things. At any rate, shouldn't be too insanely expensive to fix.

Thanks guys. Will try a combo of all of the above. On the other hand, it is a reasonable excuse to buy another amp, right? If only I had the extra cash...
