volume problem with my amp

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got an Ampeg BA115 that has recently lost a lot of its volume. I can turn the master all the way up and barely be loud enough to compete with my drummer and guitarist where before I usually didn't have it past 12 or 2 o'clock.

What's going on here? Anyone have experience with this type of problem?

Thanks

If the amp has an FX loop try linking the Send and Return with a signal cable. Active bass? Check your battery.

It could be a number of things, from a bad solder joint to a broken PC trace to a blown component. The thing is that if you're not experienced enough in repairing gear to track it down yourself you probably couldn't fix it anyway. If you've ruled out the simple things, cords etc., it's time to take it into a techie.

It could be anything in the signal chain, bass wiring/socket, lead faulty/shorted, faulty amp input socket, blown amplifier output stage, cooked speaker.

You may have to use the process of elimination, i would try a different signal source into the amp (MP3 player?) with a different lead to the input.
Also listen carefully at low volume to the speaker, see if there is any distortion, or speaker voice coil scraping.

Check the bass and lead out too.

I have the exact same issue now. Did you find out what the cause was?

Thanks,
Ray
