Vox Sovereign 4x12 Bass Cabinet

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got one of these for a really good deal. Late 60's, USA Thomas Organ made.

Ive scrounged the net and can find specs on the amplifier, but not the cabinet.

It has a 12's in it and it's tall for a 4x12. It's 4 ohm's but doesnt list the wattage.

Does anyone know? 320 RMS? Maybe?

I would guess 200 watts, but you know none of that really matters, right?

Why would it not matter? Making sure I wouldnt blow the speakers, essentially.

i looked on the web, the amp put out 60 watts. the vox gold bulldog speakers are mainly used by guitarists. are you sure the speakers are original ? i would be carefull with the wattage if the original was paired with a 60w amp.

The point he's making is that watts are meaningless, what limits output is driver excursion. More pertinent to you is that the drivers in that Vox are probably guitar drivers, as very few true bass drivers existed in the 60s, so they have very little excursion capacity and therefore the cab is probably incapable of going very loud no matter what the power rating is.

Aside from the 1/4 jack modification that was done, everything is original. From what I can tell on the internet, and based off the code on the speaker, these are Oxford 12T6-12

Still cant determine the wattage though. I see that these were also used in Fender Amps in 1969.

Personally, respeaker it or sell it on to a guitarist. Your gonna fart that cab out real easy or blow a speaker if your not careful and they might be worth more than the cab cost you.

Read my lips: Watts Don't Mean Diddly!
Oxford twelves are guitar drivers. They lack the excursion necessary to be used for electric bass other than at very low volume. One modern twelve can equal the output of four of these.

Probably wont use it for bass. But since it was indeed a bass cab, I thought someone here might be familiar with it or what the rating on the speakers and/or cabinet would be. Might be nice as a distortion only cab and bi-amp it with my electric amp cab. Certainly brigns the DOO)))))M tone with a Sunn beta Bass and my SG plugged into it with the bass turned down. Instant Melvins/ King BUZZO))))) tone!
