VT Bass 1969 or 2x VTBass Pedals and Poweramp?

Sign in to disble this ad
I know this amp has been briefly talked about it another thread but thought I'd start a new one to discuss my little dilemma.

I'm wanting the VT Bass pedal sound to run alongside my Hiwatt 200watt clean. I thought about getting a VT Bass 1969 but i can't find anywhere that sells them in the UK. So I thought for the money it would cost me to ship on over, I could probably buy 2 VT Bass pedals and run them into a power-amp so I could switch between slightly over-driven and just a touch more over-driven.

BUT... the thought of part of my amp just being a pedal into a poweramp is making me feel a little ill.

Maybe i'm being stupid but it just doesn't seem right. Do you know of any reason why this is a bad idea? I know it would be so much cheaper and from what I gather then 1969 is just 2 VTBasses and poweramp?

Any thoughts?

I thought about 2 of those but apart from the DI out of them is there any difference? I wouldn't be able to use it because I'd need to change the drive to FOH aswell as to my cab.

This. If you only use 1 bass it allows 6 presets for different tones. For 2 basses into the box, it allows 3 presets per input.

ahhh I see. Well thats a good call then. Still doesn't make me feel less ill about not actually using a real amp haha. Am I just being stupid or is a VT Bass Deluxe into a power-amp just as good as getting the 1969?

Or... would you recommend spending a little more cash getting another decent amp and running the VT Bass Deluxe into that rather than just a power-amp.

Well, it's certainly ALOT less expensive than the 1969. I had considered going a similar route with the VT Bass into a Carvin power amp, but haven't made the move just yet.

It'll work fine, but no way I'd ditch a Hiwatt to go only VT.

If you can see yourself having no need for the amp part of the system in the not so distant future, then it makes gobs of sense to me to separate the pramp from the amp. We are all IEM and I have no need for a power amp or stage sound most of the time. When I do, I have enough class D amps and small cabs sitting around to get the job done.

Im not going to go only VT. Id never ditch the Hiwatt. I'm going to run that clean into a 115 and then the VT Bass into the 610.

Ideally I'd like a second Hiwatt to run the VT into but that's not financially realistic at all. Not unless I get that xmas bonus they talked about 3 years ago.

We have been toying with the idea of IEMs but so far our plans only include the drummer to use them I think. Plus I'd always like to have on stage sound anyways, never know when you'd like to just pop out the IEMs and listen to the crowd singing along. good idea though.

Wow, I didn't even realize the 1969 was out yet, but MF shows them in stock. Anyone on TB have one yet?

The VT Deluxe works well. I use it into a GK amp. I've also used the regular VT pedal into a sansamp BDDI so I can have two different sounds as well as a DI. While the BDDI and VT can get the same sounds, the BDDI can get sounds the VT cannot IMO. While I'm still working to get the VTD as my only pedal I haven't been able to go completely away from my BDDI at times.

Why not just run a VT Bass into one of the channels of your Hiwatt? Unless you want to lug around additioanl amps and cabs. Hiwatts are a great pedal platform. I have a couple of my old Fender amps modded with a power amp insert and run my Character pedals into those amps and they sound great.

If I were you I'd get the VT Bass and something else to add another gainstage.

Considering how much I liked the VT through a TC Stacatto, maybe a touch of 'modern' (spectracomp and EQ) might be the next clean thing.
