Walkabout Combo Question

I've owned a Walkabout Scout 12" for sometime and I'm quite happy with the tone and what-not, but I do have one question. When I play it at louder volumes, close to mid-way and up, when I hit a low string or lower note, it sounds almost like a helicopter with the notes breaking up. Not like the sound is going out, but it almost sounds like there's a delay on it. Is this because the low end frequency is pushing the speaker too hard?

Could be, where do you have the bass knob set on the amp?

It might be the air being forced out the second (empty) speaker jack in back. Try plugging it.

YES. It is, afterall, a single 12" spkr. I had the exact same trouble when I was jamming with the scout 12. You reach the limit of the spkrs capabilities, and it gets ugly. The solution is to use a larger cab, like a 2x12 or 4x10, with the Walkabout head. Use the Scout 12 combo when you don't need to be loud, use a bigger cab when you do.

I usually set the bass knob just a bit past 12 o'clock. I thought that it might be pushing the speaker to the limit. I've never heard of plugging the hole as a solution. Plug with something like putty or paper? Or anything I can get ahold of?

if you can't locate actual 1/4" jack plugs (look at a decent guitar/amp shop, or radio shack maybe), try using those disposable foam ear plugs that you can find at Home Depot or many drugs stores.

and I will also +1 the comments about not expecting to dime the WA 1x12 and not get bad grind. If you need big sound, get more drivers.
