Walter Woods 2000-2003 models

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone,

I have browsed the Walter Woods threads and have seen a lot of mention of needing to have an "upgrade" done by walter on ultras from 2000-2003. I opened mine up today and saw the serial is 090502, which I believe dates it as a 2002 model. It had not black magic marker on the inside and I bought it from the original owner, and he never sent it in.

Do I need to contact Walter and send it to him? Will I need to pay for this? It seems to me if he built it with defective parts, he should do it on his own accord, but I'm not sure.

Any info is much appreciated, thanks!

My April '01 Super has always sounded and worked just fine, YMMV.

Is it misbehaving? If not, why are you worried?

While I agree with you there (those years are kind of magic for the 1200 build), there was an issue with a component placement that resulted in some of them failing.

The good news for the OP is that Walter keeps very good records about each build, and would be able to tell the OP if he MIGHT need to send it in for the minor upgrade.

Chances are, since that amp is working fine after all these years, that there is no issue (especially if it was built closer to 2003 than 2000), but a 2 minute phone call to make sure is a no brainer.

I've owned several '02 and '03 Ultras and Walter has told me there are no updates. Even if there was after this amount of time he will not do it for free.

Makes sense. He recommended that I update my 2000 model (I bought one of the first 'revised' Utlra's when they came out in 2000) when I sent it in after a number of years to replace a scratchy pot. I would assume by 2002 he had that minor issue rectified.

And yes, Walter doesn't do much for free! Reasonable charges though, and amazing turnaround times. I have no problem with that.
