Do any of you WW owners have a small hiss, then a pop when you power down your amp?

Inquiring minds want to know...

That's not an unusual thing for amps to do. My '69 Kustom did it too.

Yep. My WW does that. I've been wondering about it too.

Technically it's the capacitor storage bank powering down, and that noise can be prevented by use of a drain circuit. But it's not a necessity and the lack of it doesn't bother anything.

I just spoke to Walter. Sadly, his wife passed away last week unexpectedly. He's relocating to Sacramento, and will be in "transit mode" for several months. His phone number has changed, as well. He assured me (us) that he is still in the amp building and repairing business; he simply needs some time to process things and move on and into his new shop. If you need his new #, the old # has a message on it, telling the caller the new #.
If you feel so obliged, keep him in your prayers.

Holy crap! I just spoke to Walter AND his wife on the phone a few months ago! I had sent him a WW coffee mug that I had designed on Zazzle.com and he and his wife were so thrilled by that - I just thought it came out cool and ordered 2 - and WW hasn't had any SWAG in years. I made a shirt on there too that came out cool. I knew that Walter and his wife had to be in their 60s, although I have no idea of their actual age, but what a shock to hear about his wife! Walter has told be a number of times that he's going to be in business for a long time to come, but I always wondered what that actually means. I wonder why he's moving to No Cal? I've only had a problem one time with a WW amp and I've been using them since 1996! I guess I'll call his number to get his new number and see if I can get him on the phone at some point.

Re: the original question - yep - always hear the hiss/pop when powering down, so I don't think it's an issue.

I doubt that Walter reads these threads, but I'm sorry to hear about his wife. Walter was deeply in love with her, and I'm sure he's grieving terribly. Walter's wife did lovely caligraphy, and my amps came personally tagged with some of her handiwork.

Both of my Ultras pop (mildly) as they power down.

Than's sad to hear. Never met his wife, but Walter is such a sweet guy. thanks for the heads up re: the new number.

And bwoodman: do you have any pics of that mug? I may be down for one of those (if possible).

I spoke with Walter this evening; he is doing fine given recent events. It will take some time for him to get set up at his new place, but he is still planning on doing his business until at least 100!

I'm working on making it public on Zazzle now....I'll put it on here as soon as it's up....there's a shirt too - and Walter already knows about the whole Zazzle thing - got his permission to make these items public.
