Want to add treble by running external speaker

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi-

New member. I have a Schecter C-4 bass with EMG pickups, a 50 watt Fender Bassman head (1967), and an Ampeg 15" speaker (built about 1996). Learning to slap and pop. Pops sound OK when I play w/out amplification, but sound muffled when amplified. Thinking about adding to the Ampeg speaker by getting a speaker that will give me additional treble, and running this new speaker from the "External Speaker" jack on the back of my Bassman. Should I even bother, or just get a whole new speaker configuration, like 4 10"ers?

Thank you in advance.

For that type of tone, you'd be much better off with a solid state head, and a speaker cab with a tweeter. Keep the rig you have though, it's got old school mojo galore.

Could get, or easily build, what they call a "bright box". Could be as simple as a couple piezo tweeters in a little box to set on top the amp. Or you could do the horn driver/HPF thing. You'd chain it to the 15 you're playing through now. There's probably room to put a tweeter in the 15 cab so you don't have another piece to carry around but I don't know that I'd be cutting holes in a 1966 ampeg.
