Want a new cab: Small, lightweight, high-wattage. Is this possible?

So I'm downsizing my rig. I have a GK 1001RB-II that I'd like to keep, but I have an Avatar Neo 410 that is just too big for me these days.

I'd like a 1x12, but I need one that can handle the 400 watts @ 8 ohms that the GK head puts out. What's out there that isn't too big? I've never been cab shopping before and I have no idea what's out on the market. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

How much are you willing to pay for the privilege? There are some usual suspects - barefaced, Fearful 12x6, BigE, audiokinesis.

Bergantino comes to mind, but their 112 is only rated to 350W at 8ohms.

I'd be wary of trying to replace 4x10 with 1x12.

I pretty much asked the exact same question a few days ago. With the help of the few folks that commented on that thread, this is a small list that I compiled:

GK does have some nice light weight cabs,, the Neo's and the new MBE cabs.

Carvin has some as well.

Just a few other suggestions.

The Xsonics 212cf is a 40 pound 800 watt little beast. You can hammer in it pretty good and it doesn't break up. There are a couple videos available. It is a great sounding cabinet

The RB1001 is a huge amp. Capable of damaging any stand alone 12. So just get yourself a quality 12 and use it with a touch a wisdom. GKNEO112 comes to mind. Just a thought... a 212 will be lighter/smaller than the 410 you currently have, yet have significantly higher handling specs than a 112.

IME- standalone 12's are almost enough, but usually just a little short of what you need- MORE air = more speakers. None that I know of will move the amount of air of a 410 and many will not move the same amount of air as a HEAVY duty 210.
Have nto done the Fearful or Thunder CHild, so these may be exceptions.
My DNA 112N is VERY loud as well, but not quite enough for most gigs all on its lonesome.

Its all about the compromises you choose - I wouldn't want to sacrifice having some guts down low - so if I wanted small/light/loud I think this is where I'd go today:

None of these will handle nearly as much power or get remotely as loud as the "super 12s", but they'll be a lot cheaper.

Honestly I think a 410 with 4 wheels on it is easier to move in most situations than a 210 or 112 and especially easier than making extra trips carrying multiple little cabs. The exception being if your having to constantly carry gear up flights of stairs. Still haven't played through a neo cab that was good enought or me to get rid of my ceramic loaded ampeg cab. If I want to jam and don't need the 410 I use headphones

Check out the GK 210 neo. It weights 30 lbs., designed like a wedge( monitor- so you can put it anywhere on stage), & takes 400 W. at 8 ohms. It lacks a little in beef but has good punch and cuts very well. Ive pushed mine pretty hard in the 2yrs. I have had it & it has held up with no problems.

That's a realistic number for any 1x12. If you really think you need to push more power than that, then you need more speaker area than a single12 can provide.

You can sure replace your 410 with a 112; but, you're gonna lose SPL, no matter which 112 you choose; even with the super fin, super high performance, super hi tech stuff.

I've out of 410 world for quite a while now, and have been happily using 2x112 of various sorts. 2x112 is a much better match for the 1101's power, but, if you're not gonna run it hard, one would be fine.

If loss of SPL isn't important to you, there's a ton of fine 112's out there to choose from.

For me, with the GK 1001RBII; I'd go with two of the GK Neo 112's so you can actually use the biamp/horn management system.
