I need a new head. and i want a warm vintage sound.
i would like tube, but price and wattage comes ahead.

all i know of is Acoustic, GK, Ampeg, Line 6, and SWR.

im curious as to the sound of Markbass, Ashdown, and Genz Benz and stuff like that.

so i just want a warm vintage sound. much like paul mccartney, or the monkees.

can someone help me out?

Genz Benz's are hybrid amps, and in my experience have a very warm sound. I love 'em, but unless you can get a deal the cheapest one with more than 400w is around $700.

SWR may not be so good for "warm", the new Ampeg PF stuff would be good, and the WalkAbout head should be too, the difference between 300 and 400 should be quite negligible.

The Carvin B2000 gets you there with the Sub Bass and DRIVE real quick. Tons of power too for not much coin.

In my experience, the Genz Benz Shuttle is anything except warm.

A used Eden would be cool, Ashown is pretty warm too IIRC.

I paid $400 for my used Traynor YBA-200, and after changing one of the preamp tube for a 12AT7, it seriously have some balls. Warm, can vintage sounding, IMO at least.

Maybe an used GK could fit the bill, too. I have an 700-RBII and I'm able to get a pretty bassy "warm" sound with it. But it got the characteristic GK sound : some like it, some don't.

+1 to this combo, but I use a Carvin 1540 amp, it's 475 a side at 8 ohms. you can go smaller and stay around 400 watts total though.

Hartke lh500 is a pretty warm amp. Around $350 bucks for 500 watts. Heck you could get the 1000 watt version for under $500, most places.

Check them out, really nice warm amps. I believe they use a 12ax7 tube in the pre.

If you can find a used Orange Terror Bass, i think i saw one on here sell for around 500$ and its 500Watts. From what i know of Orange and what i have heard about this head is its super warm, and british sounding, just like the Monkees!

I would look at the Hartke LH500 are LH1000 and maybe one of the Peavey Tour model heads.

+1 to this. 12AX7 tube pre + 1100watts bridged into 4 ohms. It's warm and got plenty of growl.

Once in a while, I see an old Fender 400PS for sale....typically in the $500 to $700 range. It's all tube with 435 watts into three 4Ω outputs and powered by 6 x GE 6550A output tubes. Tone is warm as anything out there. You'd need three cabs at 4Ω each or a custom cab like a 6x10 with three jacks, one per 4Ω speaker pair.

...and a roadie.

Another vote for the Hartke LH500 or 1000.
