Wattage and Noise

Let's say I need "X" amount of volume. Will a 500W amp give me less noisy output than a 250W amp, ceteris paribus?

Not necessarily I'd say.
Depends on the amp and the environment it's sitting in.

all amps have a noise floor, and the more you turn them up, the more you can hear it. it's irrelevant of the amount of wattage it has, though.

Get one with a professionally voiced preamp and you will be good to go no matter how many watts.
