Wattage question!

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an Ampeg classic 410 cab (8ohm/500Watt) and en Eden Nemesis EN400 head which is 4ohms. So I need an extra cab (8ohm) to get the most watts out of my rigg. I found an Ampeg SVT15e cab which is 8 ohms, but it only goes up to 200Watts... Am I going to blow the extra 200Watt cab's speaker apart if I hook it up with my rigg and turn up the volume? I guess I will but I'm new to cabs and heads...

Any advice welcome!

No you will not. That # is rated as 200 watts continuous and probably a much higher wattage rating for handling peaked. That meaning, it is designed to handle a steady flow of 200w without issue. You would have to run your amp to its very limits, and probably fry the head first, before ruining that 15 cab.

+1 on that, i use the exactly same cabs myself. Ampeg SVT410HE and SVT115E into Ashdown Spyder 550 hybrid amp. Sounds great to me. I did stack the 1x15 on top of the 4x10 so i hear the 1x15 abit better for monitor.

Just get another 4x10". You will be louder in large part because of adding more speakers, though upping the wattage helps, too.

You won't blow the 15, but it will be the weak link in the chain. Your exact question pops up on average every three days. Do a search, the truth is out there.
