Wattage Ratings?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everyone,

So there's something I've been wondering about for a while now, and to some of you this may come across as a rather stupid/ignorant question, but does anyone know if all the bass amps out there, as far as their wattage output goes, are measured consistently from brand to brand? For instance, I've seen those so-claimed 2500/3500 watt Behringer "nukes," but for only $500, the the only thing I can think of to say to that is, "it's too good to be true." So does anyone know? IS it too good to be true? There's got to be some sort of catch here; either Behringer is measuring wattage differently than the rest of us or the amp must sound terrible.

Another thing is, I've heard a lot of people going around saying "G-K watts always sound louder than so-and-so watts." So what's the actual aspect of G-K amps that make them louder watt for watt? Or could this just be a placebo kinda thing?

Thanks in advance!

Well, there's peak, and there's RMS. AND, since almost none say whether they measure wattage at 100 hz, 1000 hz, 10,000 hz, you can only assume that they measure somewhere between 100 and 10,000 hz.

As far as GK watts go, there is something about the way they sound when they "hit the rails" in the power section that's more pleasing to many peoples ears than with other SS amps.

Honest amp companies will rate their output to a standard
EIA
EIAJ
FTC - which is used for Consumer Electronics gear in USA

Most Bass Manufacturers will waste time producing propaganda on their interpretation reason why the standard ratings don't mean anything. Or make up their own rating. "Peak", "Music Power", "RMS" - no standard.
