WATTS....VOLUME....SPEAKER SIZE???

Sign in to disble this ad
I have read with interest some postings here about watts, speaker size and volume.....so can someone who really knows about it tell me, for example, if I have a 200 watt head...what is the optimum number and size of speakers to get the max. usable volume?

Well it all depends.

If your head can go down to four ohms the best you could probably do would be 8x10 or maybe two eight ohm 2x15's.

If your head can drop down to two ohms you could roll with two 8x10's, or maybe as much as four 2x15's or two 6x12's.

As far as which one would give the most volume, I'm unsure, but any one of those set ups would be overkill for anything that doesn't require a PA.

There are too many variables for a simple definitive answer.

There is a good article about watts and speaker sensitivity, etc. in the new Musician's Friend catalog. You can probably find it on Harmony Central site, too.
Pretty good explanation about what you're asking.
