Has anyone ever used these? Will it handle bass frequencies? Will it kill my tone?

It would have to use various combinations of resistors to do that meaning some of the power that would be going to the speaker will be burned off as heat instead, hence the 50 and 100 watt ratings. Don't know if it'll change your tone but it will suck away some power. Hit it with bass amp level power and you'll burn it up.

It's ok for tube amps to play at impedances lower than what they have taps for so the whole gizmo is rather pointless. Could probably sell some to guitar players though....especially if it says Weber on it.

I think it was meant for guitar. So a 500W head would push it too hard? And tube amps don't have to have matching impedance? What about the Hartke LH500? I don't think that all tube.

This will handle 400W
Peavey :: Automatch™ II Transformer

Yes - they're autoformers, big coils, and will impart frequency response change.

But, amp watts are so cheap these days there's really no need for something like this with a modern amp.

The hartke uses a 4ohm minimum solidstate power section. As long as whatever speakers you use with it work out to 4ohms or higher, it's fine. No need for exact matching of anything. If you have a 4ohm cab and an 8ohm cab and want to use them both, make a series cable.

I use a www.glockenklang.de/en/products/bass_systems/impedance-transformer.htm to match my 8 Ohm box to my 4 Ohm only tube amp.

Works perfectly.

But its a heavy lump of iron and I don't see much point in using it with a solid state amp.

Transformer w/ SS amp

With a SS amp you could use it to raise the impedance of a combination of cabinets up to the minimum impedance of the amplifier. i.e. if you had two four ohm cabinets that you wanted to use, but the minimum impedance of your amplifier was four ohms, then you could use the impedance transformer to double the impedance of the cabinets from two to four ohms.

The transformer is heavy though...
