Question weird amp issue question

Sign in to disble this ad
ok i have a peavey combo 300 that i sold and bought back about 2 weeks ago(also have a Kilobass head, this is for practising)

ok so my weird issue is:sometimes it doesn't JUST turn on,it might and it might not, wierdness is=sometimes(emphasis on sometimes)if you turn the instrument volume knob(s) wide open and strum you can barely hear it(but it's `there')then it will suddenly come on,,get's louder then all of a sudden it's working

second`weirdness' is;sometimes(once again emphasis on sometimes)if you pull the cord out of your bass and stroke it(yeah i know but i'm trying to remain serious here,,with amp ON it will just suddenly come on

i know the human body creates electricity (as does string movement)so it seems like,,`sometimes' i'm able to `ignite'the thing via the input cable, last night she just wouldn't fire up(lights on but nothing coming out soundwise)

i have a decent tech but he's also a construction carpenter and has been working out of town, other choice is to drive 1.5 hours one way,,this combo is a great piece for practising.,tube pre and 8x10 she `aint' but i don't exepct her to be,,,don't know what happened to it at my buddys?,has a high school (garage)band practising in his basement so anything could have happened(like 2`strats' at once)

they needed/wanted amps they could haul easily(the kids)so i bought it back now it has issues

any clues for me?,when she works it ALL seems fine/dandy it just getting her up and running

EDIT yes i've attempted to enter the whammy bar and grille about 5 times!,lost my password and by golly! i just can't seem to gain entry no matter how many new passwords i enter(pretty unhappy about it but i know i'll get help here with the dearth of knowledge

I'd take it in to an amp tech for a looksie. Might just need cleaning, (pots & jacks), but the only way to know for sure is to put it on the bench.

thanks!

yes, talking to a guitar tech at a shop he talked about these combos(how they were tested) stated it's usually the wire connectors inside,,unsure if they are proprietary Peavey wires,5 wires `cast' together(flatly)

remind me of GM wiring that ran under the carpets of 60's/70's cars

i pulled the `head' out jiggled wiggled cleaned vacuumed ,blew, you name it,thing turned on 3 nights in a row several times then started being weird again

yep,she needs a pro, thought maybe someone had experineced something similar

ok,thought i should add=one time here recently after practising she wouldn't turn back on again(figureing the rule of thumb on electricals is)> electrical components will fail after warming up.,,it was late i was done anyway.,the next night she fired right up?,hence i'm thinking electrical component versus a jack,i've swapped cables.ends wiggled jiggled and danced around it,,ok back to work

ok

took a time out(i work at home albeit not in the house),thing was still plugged into my J from last night's no show, nada!,wouldnt turn on(sound),then i wiggled jiggled and danced,,finally i plugged in my P,i could then here it barely/fuzzy,don't want to hear the bang when she comes on(with volume cranked on bass)

other times it's been the opposite,P won't work and the J will,i even borrowed some cables, things drivingme nuts, and i'm supposed to go jam out some stuff with my blues harp buddy tonight, anyway,i'm going to go huff some bondo then i'll be ok honest
