Perhaps they will be for you and perhaps not that is for you to decide, but I seeing and hear about more and more bassists using 12's and loving them. In your sense with two 12's it not only gives you two cabs and perhaps a lighter weight, but the also obviously the flexibility of using just one cab or both when you need it or don't. Of course other factors come into play like brand, speaker type, style of music you play, etc. However was just generally speaking.

I used to play through 2 SWR Goliath 4x10 cabs; each cab weighed over 80 lbs. They were freakin' heavy! I gigged a lot and I got really tired of hauling them around. I still use my SWR SM-400 head but I replaced my 4x10 cabs with 2 1x15 Bag End cabs. Each cab only weighs 40 lbs. I cut the weight in half and still got an incredible sound. For smaller clubs I only had to haul one cab. I'm a big fan of Bag End!

I won't need a big rig anymore, my next gig has mirrors on three sides!

Went from Big Ampeg to small Markbass icm Aguilar 112s (and later complete Aguilar). I admit the downsizing is comfortable but in the end I went back again to big Ampeg. Missed the looks, the sound and the speaker surface.
Have a smaller PF500/PF115 now as well on the side :-)

I don't hear enough of a difference to go with big heavy stuff. I just don't get it, I guess. My small, lightweight rig sounds just fine to me. To each their own, though.

I love that line! It's so true.

Yes, downsize -- you'll sound better, have more than enough power, and enjoy gigging much more.

I love the Markbass and GK NEO stuff, but there's a lot out there to choose from. Plenty of one cabinet solutions that will work in the largest of rooms.

Let your ego based rig go...

Lots of good advice posted so far. I'm lucky that I don't have physical limitations that restricts what I play and I also have the vehicles to move it around. I'm not at the point where a 3 lb head is better than an 8 lb small rack.

After bringing my 810 home at 3 AM, last week I decided to find something between the B200R combo and the 810, volume and weight-wise. I also use a PR-410, but it is actually easier to move the 810 around.

Based on the cabinet you're using now, I would suggest you try and find a used Genz Benz NeoX-212T. The new model is a NX2-212T, under 50 pounds. I have read how great these cabs are on TB for years and how well they handle a low B. Truly a great, light and powerful cab. Also, I'm not getting rid of my 810's.

NEVER! You have got to be kidding! Why the heck would I want to do that? And who says it's ego based? My SVT/810 and B-15 are clearly the best sounding rigs I have. Sure, I'll gig with small stuff as well, but what's wrong with having some ego onstage, especially if it sounds more awesome than my other rigs?

BTW, I am SO not a fan of hearing large rigs described as "ego-based rigs." I find it insulting and inaccurate. Just because YOU find it ego based doesn't mean everyone does.

Very happy. Running my GB Shuttle 6.0 through two GK 112 Neos, stacked vertically.

Different rigs for different gigs.
I gig in different sized groups of different volumes so one size wouldn't fit all.
I do house concerts where a BBII is very appropriate and doesn't prescare the audience into thinking it's going to be too loud. I do large festivals where I need big if backline isn't provided. I duo with an acoustic guitarist/singer songwriter and also sessions with loud prog rock musicians. Then there's an Avante Garde big band and trio.
Sometimes the rig selection is about type of sound.
Having used the fridges, Acoustic 360 etc. I have found many smaller rigs that can do what they do with much more portability. I love a loud forceful rig when you need it. Helps the honies dance. Loud guitar? Not so much.

Was I happy? Absolutely!!! Went from 4x1x12 and 2x1x15 all JBL bi-amped to a pair of 2x10 Acmes. Way better tone at a fraction of the size and weight.

No, I wasn't happy. Happy about the carry, for sure, and good enough for the pub gigs.

Miss the pure tube tone and the feeling of authority.

Lost 230 lbs this weekend

Well, kids are spending their xmas cash.

Put the 2 410 BLX GK cabinets in CL for $125 (one is blown) and the head from my old GK Backline 112 combo for $75. Sold all right away.

Each 410 was 95 lbs, the guy who bought the amp wanted all the old combo cabinet and blown speaker @ 40 lbs.

Bought a second GK MB 115 (35lbs) that I share with my 17 year old, as a temporary cover.

If I need my cuffs blowing forward, or kidneys pushed against the front of my stomach, I stack them up and run at 50%, but otherwise, the DI cable gets plugged into the top. (I need to keep it down so they don't overwhelm my IEMs)
