What 15" cab for under £200?

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, ive made a few threads about mixing drivers and stuff and they all seem a bad idea... Ive decided to get another 15" to go with my 15" Ashdown combo.

I have a 4string, so no low-b needed here.

I tune drop-d sometimes though.

It needs to be 8 ohms and about 150w min.

Here are some ive considered.

Ashdown MAG115

Peavey 115TVX

Hartke 115XL

Ashdown MAG210T (if it was worth it)

If anybody has ANY experience with any of these cabs, please let me know. Thanks.

Use Ashdown's 115 cab that most closely resembles your combo. It's hard to go wrong with a matched extension cab.

Still, I'd try multiple drivers just to check out how it combines with your combo to make sure.
You might be surprised, as sometimes "what they say" wouldn't work, might just work for you!
I've had a great sound with a 15" combo and a 410" cabinet. So when the combo died, I basicly got a separate 15" cabinet to maintain what I liked about it in my sound. Different amp(s) though!

I love the sound of that 210 cab i listed, i tried it out once. It just pisses me off that all the 210s ive seen only go down to 60hz or something...

Not saying it won't work, there's just inherent risk. A 210 of the same line would probably work great too.

Yes, you're right there; I forgot to mention they were of the same brand so probably tuned for that reason. Mixing different drivers of different brands would turn out less than great, so I'd check out anything that's Ashdown & within your pricerange. Happy hunting!

Nice, cheers. Will a 210 give me some ball-rattling bass though? I love the brightness, but i need some low end too

Other than that, its definitely gonna be Ashdown 115 or 210

Speaker size has very little effect on tone. 210's are (very roughly) equivalent to a 115. Either one will add more of everything you already have.

Frankly, you're not going to be reproducing the fundamental with any volume loud enough to compete with a band either way.

However, after actually looking, the 210 also has a tweeter. The 115 does not. It appears that they were intentionally voiced differently. If you combo is tweeterless, the 15 might be the way to go.
