What am I missing here?

Well I'm getting close to finishing my 2010 tour rig and here's where I'm at. The pic should speak for itself, nothing hidden there. Before I head out i'm going to put a back up head in the spot of the fan. I use a bunch of effects but those are all going to change to whatever I'll end up using in the studio when recording our new album. I use an 8x10 also. I'll have one spot, possibly two left over when this is complete. What would add to this set up?

The simpler you keep your rig, the better. I would not add anything more. Other than the rig, if you have a certain mic or Direct box you would like to use I suggest buying that. Unless the tour/sound crew are providing you with that, you should be good. Make sure to have a spare everything on the road. You never know what will happen.

yeah one of my next purchases is going to be a pr40. i'm trying to use that along with a di box so i can get my tone out in the crowd and something manageable for the sound guy.

nice choice for a mic! that's what i use.

i'm down with what gearhead suggests...leaving it empty is better than filling spaces just to fill them.

How have most sound guys reacted to that mic? I feel like it's going to be better than anything they have in the venues i play 9 out of 10 times.

generally it's been very well received. most good soundmen actually want to try it out because they've never used one before. i have, however, had occasional resistance to mics in general. on most of my gigs, though, i have the clout to tell the soundman to get stuffed, but i have occasionally had the old switcheroo pulled on me..."mind if we hook up a di as a second line to blend?" "sure, go ahead." then they turn it off for the show. so now i don't allow them to do that and i just take one line for the mic and no di.

so it all depends on your clout level on your tour. if you're a headliner, you can get away with a lot more than if you're an opener. but my advice to you is have a contingency plan in case you get flack about your mic, because if you're using different sound crews everywhere, someone's going to balk at it at some point. my contingency plan is currently a modded tech 21 british pedal and a tech 21 vt bass, and i'm also getting a vt deluxe when it comes out.

Not to hijack, but I've definitely seen your band live twice and I have thoroughly enjoy your stuff since man. I saw you guys about 3 years ago and I wanna say you were on tour with Patent Pending and Suburban Legends. I saw you guys down in Tampa at The Orpheum and then again in Ocala at The Capitol.

I even have a picture that has me wearing your tee shirt haha. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...c&id=567413575

Small world, eh?

I remember really liking your bass tone in Ocala (I was standing next to the bass amp that night). Good stuff man.

If you other TBers wanna hear a really good modern band, check Jet Lag Gemini out. Definitely how rock should be played.

/hijack.

Thanks man! That was way before I really started paying attention to my bass tone as I do now, but thank you regardless, I always tried to cut through as well as possible. And yes small world indeed, every day I'm reminded of that in some other way.

If you're going to get a DI out of concern for the soundguy, why not put a compressor in the rack too?

I have a stereo compressor in mine.
Channel 1 is run through my effects loop so that, if I want a heavy compression, I can turn it on.
Channel 2 is after the DI-out on my preamp. It's just some mild compression to ease the sharp peaks that happen during an energetic performance, but I definitely feel like It helps the soundguy out a lot and allows him to keep the bass up in the mix.

There's already a compressor in there, the dbx.

I'd put my fav DI in the rack, wired up and ready to go so they just have to plug the XLR in and you're set.

Spare cables in a drawer are good also, spare string sets, etc. Perhaps a few foam-wrapped spare tubes for your SVT just in case.

Otherwise keep it simple, less to go wrong.
