What amp to bring tonight?

The issue:

Got a gig tonight where venue is adamant about not bringing cabs. House cab is an old Marshall 800 series (1553) with 2x10 and 1x15.

I play extended range bass going to low F# (part of reason i always try to bring my own rig,. as ive set it up to work for me)

I have never played through one of these. Im assuming the worst since its probably been beaten to near death, its old, and from what i have heard these cabs basically just used guitar speakers.

I dont mind the 2x10 and 1x15 setup. My main cab is a LDS 2x10 and 6.5 mid driver on top and a 15 on bottom. Difference being obviously the speakers are much higher power and designed for the wide frequency range i use.

My heads are a Mesa v12 titan, Peavey VB-2 and a Phil Jones P1 and Crown XTI2000 pre/power that i use when i bi-amp.

So basically, which head should i bring with me for this situation. Im guessing the VB-2 as all tube might play nice with the vintage esqe cab, and the fact its lowest power?

Old Marshall cabs are not filled with Guitar speakers. I play Marshall exclusively, and I can say they are deep and tight, though this one might be beaten with in an inch of it's life.

Low power.

I'd let them know you use sub-bass tunings and high power you're not sure there cabs can handle and offer to bring your own to not risk damaging theirs.

If they're still asses about it I'd bring the peavey and make the best of it.

Of course the other option would be to bring the biggest power you got and send their speakers flying across the room for a big "I told you so".

If I was supplying house backline that was going to get abused every night I'd be fool proofing it like using a lot of heavy duty speakers and a weak amp.

Ok. My bad on the speakers. I am only going on what i've read about the cabs. I really cant find good info on the cabs.

What the hell is wrong with a place that doesn't let you bring your own cabs, but supplies a damn 210 and 115? That's crap. It better pay very well, because that's the only way in hell I'd do it.

Oh how i wish it were so. Unfortunately pay is likely to be very low. The beauty of playing local metal shows.

METAL??? How the ---- are you supposed to play downtuned metal with a 210 and a 115??? This clubowner is an idiot, and I would never book myself there again. Life is just too short, you know?

Not doubting the idiocy of the club owner one bit. From my, albeit small experience, most of them are.

I usually play through my custom LDS which is 2 10s, a 6.5 mid, and a 15. And it has been great. Everything is nice and clear and articulate. Of course the box was designed for the low tuning in mind and is 1000 watts.

I very much doubt you could feed 1KW into any single 15" driver and expect it to survive! Especially with an f# in the arsenal.

This sounds similar to a situation I ran into at a club I played in New York. I could only bring in my SVT-CL, no cab. They had a Marshall 210/115 for a cab I had to use. It has wired for 8 ohms. I had a big problem with running my 4 ohm SVT into an 8 ohm cab(I know it's possible, I just didn't like doing it with my only head and being over 1000 miles from home). I was not happy, pay sucked, and I didn't even get discounted beer. Big thumbs down.

Easy,take the Crown setup and provide the owner a reason to let you bring your own cab next time. Actually - skip the next time in favor of a paid gig. Bands that play for zip, deserve what thet get...
