What amp should I get for 200-300 Pound?

Sign in to disble this ad
I play pop punk and indie. I would like to get a tone like Mark Hoppus from Blink 182 and Joe Principe from Rise Against. The amps that I had in mind was the Ampeg BA112, Orange Crush 50 watt Bass Amp or a Fender Rumble 75. I don't mind if it doesn't have high wattage because I never get huge gigs. What amp would you recommend for my price range and style?

orange the ampeg ba series hisses louder then you will be able to hear your bass through it. it also seems like pickups and the type of amp matter for a rise against like tone try and ampeg tube amp 8x10 and nordstrand pickups with high mids... for mark hoppus try a p bass with duncan quarterpounders and new strings. and also a ampeg tube amp and 8x10

Unlikely I hope if '1996' means the OP is 15 years old. Pound = £ = US$1.5, £200-£300 = $300-$450. International forum y'know

FBS1996, do you know the UK forum http://basschat.co.uk/ ?

Good deals there and UK secondhand bass amp market-relevant advice...

Yes, but questions specific to a locale should be posted on a forum specific to a locale, such as you posted the link to. I wouldn't go to a British site asking what I could find for $400.

No prob, FDS. You know, I wouldn't choose any of the amps you mentioned, and 90% of my gigs are 'small gigs'. Get yourself some decent Trace or Peavey power, cheap (Ashdown also a good idea, McS) like a 250-watt solid state amp and a 4x10, turn it up and go, don't worry much about what favourite or famous players use, learn to get a sound YOU like. There's lots of good deals here in the UK if you don't mind lugging a bit of weight.

Bill - I hear you! We European players tend to be more dollar-savvy than Americans are familiar with pounds/euros, and that's partly cultural and also a natural result of exchange rates and the origin of so much of the gear as well as the physical location of the servers and mods of the largest internet forums. Actually, I wish you would visit and ask that $400 question because I guarantee some of the answers would be funny....

I'm sure some punters would tell me to look for a used Holden Wasp for $400AUD.

You could possibly get 2 SVT's as I think they are close to 100lbs each. It will cost you approx 4000$. That does not include cabinets, maybe one SVT and an 8x10 might hit close to 200lbs. I just bought an old Traynor Custom special which is 80lbs, you could get that and maybe a 1x15 cab with a 2x10 cab on top? That would probably be over 200 pounds, but it would sound sweeeeeettttt.
Maybe if you got one SVT you could get a couple of lightweight Markbass cabs. You could probably get a 4x10 and a 2x10. Do you plan on lifting all 200 pounds at once, like some kind of crazy bodybuilder thing? Or can they be divided up?
There are many options and maybe you should describe the vehicle you will be using to transport the 200 pounds. If its a van, the Ampeg 8x10 will be fine, if its a small car..you might have to get a really compact heavy head like an Orange and get, like, 6 2x10 cabs.....hope this has been helpful...let us know how it turns out.

Not if you only had $400USD. How the mighty have fallen!
